Networking

I am a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America club at Olivet Nazarene University. This past Tuesday March 15, the PRSSA sponsored an event Green With Networking Envy.  I attended the event and it was a fun learning experience for me.

Networking is very important and valuable. The event had a fun and laid back atmosphere. I met a lot of local employers from local businesses. Some were looking for interns and others were there to meet new professionals and network. Networking events help to create lasting  impressions on the people that you meet. It is important to give the best first impression that you can give. You should give a firm hand shake and hand out business cards. It is important that you brand yourself by creating professional business cards with your name, grade in college, major, phone number, email address, LinkedIn web page address, and any extra curricular activities that you participate in. At the event I handed a business card to every professional that I met. They seemed to be really impressed and I believe I will have a lasting impression on them.

Networking events are mutually beneficial for both businesses looking for interns or future employers and students looking for internships or jobs. These events can lead to future opportunities for both parties. I received many business cards from employers that I met. It is important to stay connected with those that you meet. Networking is an important key to success. It can lead to a mentor, future job opportunity, or maybe even a future client. You never know who someone may know or who you may meet.  Networking can take you far in life.
